Tommy Dean Fisher

Tommy Dean Fisher, 82, and a lifelong resident of Monrovia, passed away on Friday, April 7, 2017. He was born on March 9, 1935 in Monrovia to the late Manford and Iris (McCracken) Fisher. A 1953 graduate of Monrovia High School, Tommy was a talented, multi-sport athlete and was recently inducted into the Monrovia Hall of Fame. He is among the top five all time scoring leaders in basketball at Monrovia. Tommy married his high school sweetheart and fellow classmate, Elizabeth “Joan” Belcher on December 5, 1953 . He worked as a stockman and livestock broker at the Indianapolis Stockyards for over 30 years. His past memberships included the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Plainfield and Monrovia Masonic Lodge. An avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching the Hoosiers and playing a round of golf with Joan, his brother Billy Mac and others. His selfless endeavors and involvement with mentoring young, aspiring athletes and coaching in various leagues played a key role in the development and foundation of the Monrovia Youth Baseball Organization. Tommy truly enjoyed the friendship and society of others. He was sure to regularly call on family and friends; especially in time of need. Tommy possessed a natural and genuinely caring demeanor. Survivors include his loving wife of 63 years, Elizabeth “Joan” Fisher; daughter, Jill Spindler of Monrovia; sons, Barth Fisher (wife, Nancy) of Brownsburg and Brett Fisher (wife, Carrie) of Mooresville; brother, Billy Mac Fisher (wife, Martha) of Monrovia; adored grandchildren, Jessica, Casey, Hannah, Devon, Ashtyn, Justin and Jaryn; and great grandchildren, Nixon, Rowen and Erik. Visitation will be held from 4-8pm, on Monday, April 10th, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Graveside Service will begin at 1pm, on Tuesday, April 11th Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Hall, with the funeral procession leaving from the funeral home at 12:30pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Monrovia Youth Baseball Organization (MYOB).
