Timothy "Tim" J. Baker

Timothy Jon “Tim” Baker, 63, of Plainfield, Indiana, left this world unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 26, 2026. He was born on July 11, 1962, in Linton, Indiana to the late Richard Reid “Dick” Baker and Mignon “Sue” (Donahue) Baker. Growing up in Plainfield Tim attended Plainfield High School with the class of 1980. After graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Navy, working in the engine room aboard the USS Guam. During his service, he trained in Chicago and traveled to Italy, experiences he carried with pride throughout his life. Tim dedicated many years to building maintenance and facilities management, most recently working at TOA. He also worked for Klosterman Bakery for over ten as well as working for Carrier, and the Indianapolis International Airport. Known as a gifted mechanic and “vehicle whisperer,” Tim had an incredible ability to understand how things worked. He loved technology, enjoyed building computers, and was always eager to teach and mentor younger family members in mechanics and problem-solving. During his high school years, Tim met Carolyn Sue Dayhuff, now Carolyn Sue Rotman, and together they welcomed their daughter, Tara into the world. He was a devoted son, father, brother, uncle, and friend who treasured every role he held. He took great pride in helping nieces, nephews, and younger relatives, always willing to lend a hand, share advice, or teach a new skill. Tim had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting in his youth, and later watching the wildlife in his backyard. He was an avid history enthusiast and especially loved documentaries and programs on the History Channel. He was also known as an amazing cook whose meals brought family together around the table. Those who knew Tim will remember his intelligence, quick wit, and ability to hold a conversation with anyone. He was hardworking, protective of those he loved, and fiercely loyal to his people. Tim rarely sat still and was always working on a project, helping someone in need, or sharing his knowledge with others. Most of all, Tim will be remembered as a smart and loving father who deeply cherished his family, and as a man whose strength, kindness, and wisdom left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Along with his parents, Tim was preceded in death by his sister, Lisa Fairfield, and brother-in-law, Tom Weatherman. He leaves behind his daughter, Tara Baker of Indianapolis; sisters, Lauri Weatherman of Camby, and Lana Sweeney (Jennifer) of Spencer; grandchildren, Kira and Gwen Baker, and Preston Hasler; one greatgrandchild; nieces and nephews, Ryan, Nicholas, and Christa Fairfield, Elicia Sweeney, Rachel Weatherman, and Ashley (Sweeney) Rose; four great nephews and two great nieces; and his cherished cat, Jiminy. Cremation and Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia. Tim will be inurned in Crown Hill National Cemetery with full military honors, and his family will plan a Celebration of Life Gathering in the near future.
