Stephen M. "Dusty" Adams

Stephen Michael "Dusty" Adams, 76, of Alton, Illinois, was called to part from the tiring battle of breast cancer and gained peace to pass in the comfort of his niece's home and loving care at 11:10pm, on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, in Plainfield, Indiana. The oldest of three boys, Mike was born on May 9, 1945, in Indianapolis, to the late, Alvin J. and Lola B. (Shultz) Adams. A 1963 graduate of Washington High School, Mike was drafted into the service of the United States Army and defended his county in the Vietnam War. Afflicted and fearful to unveil his sexual orientation, it was well into adulthood that Mike finally gained the opportunity to exit the cage and fly in the pursuit of happiness. Finally able to freely express and discover himself, he settled into call home in Alton, Illinois where his presence was fashionably stated to sparkle and shine in the stand for rights and equality in the LGBTQ community. Dusty found his true passion and thrill was under the spotlight and in the camaraderie of drag. Connecting with a few others, Dusty got to flaunt his colorful pride and as a traveling drag where he performed and completed all over the nation where he was crowned for placing first and received many rewards. At the end of his prime, he went to work for JC Penny and received a promotion to serve as the manager. Able to experience and partake in things made him happy, he enjoy his visits with family and was the fun and funny uncle for many nieces and one nephew. Embracing his journey to the fullest, his natural talent of making others laugh was truly a treat. And his great sense of humor was always great company and his warm and welcoming presence will truly be missed. Survivors include his brothers, Jackie Adams (wife, Jenny) and Ricky (late wife, Donna) both of Indianapolis; step-sister, Patty Pratt (husband, John) of Indianapolis; nieces, Becky Garl (husband, William), Paula Olleman (husband, Richard), Lynette Talaska (husband, Steve), Gina Dycus (husband, Don), Tina Tetrick and a nephew, Matthew Porter; along with a host of fellow friends. Friends and family are welcome to gather for a Graveside Service officiated by Pastor Dave and Military Honors to begin services at 1:00pm, on Monday, September 27, 2021, in the Greenwood Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, 734 N. Morgantown Road, Greenwood, IN 46142.
