Roger "Skippy" Hamil

Roger “Skippy” Dean Hamil, 55, of Beech Grove, and formerly of Monrovia, passed from this life at his home on February 28, 2020. He was born in Beech Grove on June 9, 1964 to the late Willie Dean Hamil and Helen Ailene (Poe) Dennis. A 1982 graduate from Monrovia High School, Roger previously attended the Decatur Central School System, where he was a member of the Dive Team. He earned his Associates Degree in Art from Ball State University where he made the Dean’s List. Roger attended the Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene. He adored dogs, earning a Dog Training Certificate and was employed at the Sleepy Hollow Pet Ranch, where he fulfilled his dreams, working with man’s best friend. With a heart of gold and a smile on his face, Roger befriended everyone he met. A straight shooter, he didn’t hesitate to tell you how it was. The greatest dad, and passionate fisherman, he taught his girls to fish and took them cave exploring. Along with fishing, he enjoyed hunting, sports cars, trucks, old Fords and watching old Westerns; but his greatest passion was spending time making memories with his children, grandchildren and close friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Along with his mother, Roger is survived by his significant other, Robin Hamil of Beech Grove; daughters, Alicia Barker of Clayton and Natasha Hamil McKee (husband, Brandon) of Paragon; step daughter, Taylor Crabill of Herman, Missouri; sister, Shannan Franklin of Indianapolis; grandchildren, Alex Scdoris, Olivia Callas, Tj and Kelcie Gibeck, and Bayleigh and Greyson Hausman; nephews, Koty Hopkins and Mitchel Franklin; nieces, Aleena, Sherah, and Willow Franklin; several aunts and uncles; and beloved fur babies, Jaxon and Josie. The Friends and Family celebration for Roger's life HAS BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL A LATER DATE at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Roger’s family is seeking assistance with his final expenses.
