Randy Wagoner

Hugh “Randy” Randall Wagoner, 78, of Plainfield, passed away in the early morning hours of Wednesday, August 26, 2026, while in the care of Life’s Journey of Avon. He was born on May 24, 1948, in Martinsville, to the late Robert Parker Wagoner and Martha Jane (Kivett) Wagoner. Randy was a 1966 graduate of Warren Central High School and attended Indiana University for one year. A proud and honorable veteran, Randy served in the United States Marine Corps from 1967 to 1969 as a Lance Corporal, during which time he was deployed to Vietnam. Following his military discharge, he began a lifelong career in telecommunications. He dedicated 40 years to AT&T as a Communication Specialist. Randy was deeply involved in his work community, serving as a Union Representative for the Communication Workers of America (CWA), which even took him to Washington, D.C., to advocate for his fellow workers. His career also brought him the greatest joy of his life. While installing her phone at her new apartment, Randy met Margaret Ann McClain. Shortly after leaving, he became her very first phone call on that new line, asking her out for dinner and a movie. The two hit it off instantly, were engaged that Christmas in 1975, and married on May 1, 1976. The couple recently celebrated 50 years of a beautiful, devoted marriage. Randy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in providing for and caring for his family. He was a hard worker and a good provider, but he also knew how to enjoy life. Some of his happiest memories were made during family vacations, including trips to Indian Pass, Florida, where the family rented a big house, as well as visits to Dollywood and Disney World. He especially cherished spending time with his grandchildren. Those who knew Randy will remember his handsome smile, quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. He was always ready to have a good time and enjoyed poker nights with friends. A gifted storyteller, Randy could keep people entertained with his stories and sharp sense of humor. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed squirrel hunting with his grandpa Kivett, fishing, reading and simply being in the country, where he felt most at home. Randy was exceptionally intelligent and was a member of Mensa. His memory will live on in the stories his family share, the laughter he brought into their lives and the love he gave so freely. Along with his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his sister, Dayna Copas. He leaves behind his wife, Margaret A. Wagoner of Plainfield; daughters, Miranda Wagoner (Jason Smith) of Indianapolis, Bethany Bammann (Austin) of Plainfield, and Rebecca Kinkelaar (Matt) of Danville; siblings, Neil Wagoner (Theresa) of Maryland, Sally Portteus (Pat) of Fishers, and Terry Newsom (Randy) of Texas; along with his grandchildren, Mia and Emerson Bammann, and Harper and Calvin Kinkelaar. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Visitation will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, from 12:30pm until a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 2:30pm., with Pastor Chris Kivett officiating, and interment will follow in Mt.
