Merletta "Sue" Mae Johnson

Merletta Mae Johnson, affectionately known as Sue, 74, Plainfield resident and Crawfordsville native, gained eternal rest at 1:16 am, on Saturday, September 28, 2024, after the family gathered around her bedside in IU Health West Hospital, Avon. She was born on October 22, 1949, in Crawfordsville, the daughter of the late Edith Ernestine (Wilson) and Merle Austin “Bus” Miller, Jr. Sue was raised in an area known as the Goose Nibble, where she attended Crawfordsville High School. Her father was the local sheriff, and her mother worked tirelessly to care for Sue and her four siblings. As a young girl, she became familiar with responsibilities, consequences, and sacrifices, instilling her with the ability to be resilient, disciplined, and lead a selfless and purposeful life. Sue's academic journey was called to an end after tenth grade, demonstrating her unwavering loyalty to her family. She left school to help her sister raise two young children. Although her academic journey took a different path, Sue's inherent nurturing spirit flourished throughout her life While out fishing with her dad, Sue met Reggie Dean Johnson. The pair were joyously united in marriage on March 20, 1968, and embarked on a loving journey lasting for 56 years. A member of the Monrovia Christian Church, she was enthralled with watching Hallmark movies, taking her beloved grandchildren on shopping sprees, and being a huge fan of Kid Rock. Faithful to put family first, Sue was known for whipping homemade dressing to accompany TV dinners and hamburger helper. She loved to read, had a bit of an inner wild side, and frequently didn’t have a filter. Sue will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her, and she leaves a legacy of light and hope with all who are left to cherish her memory. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her two siblings James and Aleeta “Pete” Miller; and in-laws, Rita Miller and Sherman Morris. Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Reggie Dean Johnson of Plainfield; children, Brad Johnson (wife, Lina) of Mooresville, Brian Johnson (wife, Juanita) of Speedway, Brandy Elliott (husband, Chuck) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Brandon Johnson (wife, Ally), Blake Johnson, and Brady Johnson all of Mooresville, Jordan Johnson of Wilbur, Justin Johnson of Mooresville, Kiley Elliott of Tampa, FL, Kelsey Elliott and Kaitlyn Elliott both of Mooresville, Joshua Elliott of Plainfield; 6 great grandchildren; brother, Larry Miller of Crawfordsville; sister, Marcia Morris of New Market; in-laws, Sherry and Andy Johnson of Crawfordsville. Cremation Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Respecting Sue's wishes, there will be no formal services.
