Linda Potter

Linda Irene Potter, 82, of Monrovia, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, August 16, 2026. She was born October 8, 1943, in Martinsville, to the late Lester Oliver “Bud” Hicks and Dorothy (Troutman) Hicks. A proud graduate of Martinsville High School with the class of 1961, she continued her education at Indiana Business College, earning her associate degree. She spent 30 years working in the Anesthesia Department at Indiana University School of Medicine as an office administrator specializing in medical billing, retiring in 2005. A past member of Monrovia United Methodist Church, Linda spent time giving back to others through volunteer work at St. Francis Hospital, where she volunteered with mail, reception, and hospice. Linda was the big sister who shared a close bond with her younger brother, Rick. A unique and quirky woman she was private in many ways, but those who knew her best knew how deeply she loved and cared for her family. She had a way of worrying over the people she loved—not because she wanted to interfere, but because she cared fiercely and wanted everyone to be safe and happy. Later in life, Linda met Richard Hurst, and the two shared an instant connection when they met at Gray’s for dinner. Their relationship was filled with companionship, conversation and many treasured memories. She loved to travel and enjoyed experiencing new places. One of her favorite destinations was Russia, and she was proud to have visited four of the seven continents. She was also a talented crafter who loved beginning new projects and working on them with great care and attention to detail and was known to have a house full of yarn. She recently discovered weaving, which became one of her favorites. Linda was always willing to give something new a try, even when she never quite got the hang of it. Perhaps Linda's greatest joy, however, was her family. She made it a priority to attend the events and activities of her children and grandchildren, always wanting to be there for the important moments. Her family was everything to her, and the love she had for them will continue to live on in the memories they share. Along with her parents, Linda was preceded in death by her brother, Rick Hicks. She leaves behind her husband, Richard Hurst of Monrovia; daughter, Jody Davis (Chuck) of Plainfield; grandchildren, Josie and Joseph Hause, both of Plainfield, and Nick Hurst of Fort Wayne; along with her beloved dog, Daisy. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 12:00pm until a Celebration of Life Service beginning at 2:00pm., with Pastor Tom Richason officiating. A private family graveside service and interment will follow Hilldale Cemetery in Martinsville..
