JW Knox

James William “JW” Knox, Clayton resident and businessman resident cashed out with 91 years of worldly wisdom. He finished the race on Saturday, November 2, 2024, after facing the challenges of dementia over the last year. He was born in Bath County, Kentucky, on October 28, 1933, to the late Lester Faris and Nora Ellen (Sapp) Knox. A larger-than-life presence, his friendly fire was the type of good company that made the days seem a little brighter and kinder when this man came around. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Evelyn (Harper) Knox, to whom he was united in marriage with on September 6, 1952; two adult children, Donna Kerr and James “Jim” Knox; siblings, Gerald Knox and Naomi Jett; and two grandsons, Lester and Nick Knox. Survivors include his daughter, Elizabeth Ellen McMurray (husband, Mac) of Franklin; daughter-in-law, Rhonda Knox of Monrovia; son-in-law, Roger Kerr of Bloomington; sister-in-law, Lola Knox of Owingsville, Kentucky; grandchildren, James Smith of Clayton, MaryAnn Smith (companion, Lisa) of Franklin, Levi Knox (wife, Casey) of Martinsville; Lacey Cox (husband, George) of Monrovia; Lance Knox of Martinsville; great-grandchildren, Gordon Smith, Lilly, Kaden, Henry and Nick Cox, Alexis, Landon, Evelyn, and Jenson Knox, and Bryan Smith; two great-great-grandchildren, Angel and Bryan Smith. Funeral and Cremation Arrangements were entrusted into the professional care of Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Friends and family are invited to attend the inurnment in Clayton at the Center Valley Cemetery on State Rd 39, where the Mooresville Honor Guard has prepared a presentation of military honors to start at 2:15 pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024. A gathering of food and fellowship will be held prior from Noon until 2:00 pm, at the Monrovia Christian Church, on Gordon Road (north entrance - gymnasium) Memorial contributions may be made payable to the donor's choice of either the Monrovia Christian Church, Center Valley Cemetery Association, or the Mooresville Honor Guard and mailed to c/o Light Memorial, 585 E.
