Joe Holloway

Joseph Lee “Joe” Holloway, 66, of Mooresville, passed away on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at Franciscan Hospice House. He was born in Martinsville on February 3, 1960, the late James Monroe Holloway and Sarah Maxine (Duncan) Holloway. The youngest of eight children, Joe was raised in Spencer, Indiana, where he enjoyed a country upbringing and spent countless hours with his grandparents, along with boyhood shenanigans with his brothers, creating the kind of childhood memories and adventures that became cherished stories throughout his life. His journey later took him through Akron and Illinois before eventually settling in Monrovia, a community he proudly called home. Joe attended Monrovia High School and proudly graduated with the class of 1978. For more than twenty years, he worked as a florist with Madison Avenue Flower Shop, where his creativity, eye for beauty, and love for people made him a natural fit. He possessed a remarkable artistic talent and expressed himself through ceramics, pottery, jewelry making, decorating, and music. An accomplished potter, Joe often demonstrated his craft at local events, including taking his pottery wheel to Anderson Orchard so others could experience the joy of creating. He also shared his talents as a teacher’s assistant in pottery classes and contributed his decorative skills to Christmas programs and community events. In 1995, Joe met the love of his life, William Richard “Bill” Williams, while playing pool at a local bar. Their connection was immediate, and they spent the next 31 years building a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion. They were united in marriage in 2022, a joyful celebration of the bond they had shared for decades. Joe was a man of many interests and endless curiosity. He loved cooking and baking (a talented passed on from his mother), often recreating recipes he discovered online and putting his own special touch on them. A gifted gardener, he had an extensive knowledge of trees, flowers, and plants. He enjoyed home improvement projects, building decks and finding new ways to improve and beautify his surroundings. Known for his wit, charm, and compassion, Joe never met a stranger. He had a gift for making friends wherever he went and could often be found visiting with familiar faces around town. His love extended not only to people but also to animals of every kind, from beloved dogs and cats to the wildlife that frequented his yard. A faithful and spiritual man, Joe loved God and shared his faith through both word and example. He was a former church choir member and attended Bethel Church. His life reflected kindness, generosity, creativity, and a genuine love for others. Above all, Joe will be remembered for his warm heart, outgoing personality, artistic spirit, and the joy he brought to those around him. His life was full of purpose, laughter, and love, and his memory will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know him. Though deeply missed, Joe’s legacy of love, faith, and artistic expression will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Along with his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Max and Mark Holloway. He is survived by his loving husband, William Richard “Bill” Williams of Mooresville; siblings, Beverly Dwinell of Louisville, KY, Mary Ann Chesser of CA, Verna Mae “Chub” Oliver of Rochester, IN, Jimmy Holloway of Martinsville, and Faith McClain (Bruce) of Mooresville; brother in law, Scott Williams (Chrissy) of Greenfield; sisters in law, Debbie Williams of New Palestine, and Sue Picaroni of Pinellas, FL; best friend of 48 years who was like a brother, Terri Cumming of Greenwood; several nieces and nephews; and the countless lives he touched through his kindness, creativity, and friendship. Funeral and Cremation Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 5:00pm until a Celebration of Life Memorial Service that will begin promptly at 7:00pm, and Pastor Keenan Steinway will officiate.
