Jimmy "Gale" Hood

Jimmy "Gale" Hood, age 83, of Mooresville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Born on April 29, 1943, in Lafayette, Macon County, Tennessee, he was the son of the late Burford and Lois Dean (Jones) Hood. Gale grew up in Tennessee alongside his eight siblings during a time when hard work was simply a way of life for the entire family. His strong work ethic started early—by just six years old, he was already out in the fields working a team of horses. In the later part of his teenage years, Gale moved to Indiana near Bean Blossom, where he found early work picking tobacco for Bill Monroe. Over the years, Gale built a career defined by dedication, skill, and resourceful ingenuity. A man with big farm hands and a kind, respectful heart, he began working in maintenance with United Oil, then spent many years refurbishing mobile homes as a private contractor for Fleetwood and Conseco. Outside of work, Gale was as genuine as they come—a true patriarch, a dedicated father, and the steady anchor for his family, pouring his love into raising over three generations of children who adored him deeply. Known for his straightforward "no-filter" honesty, humor, and quiet authority, he had a signature look that ensured no one ever wanted to disappoint him. He took great pride in creating and maintaining a beautiful oasis of gardens on his pond and property. An avid collector of tools and sorts, he was often seen outside working on projects, feeding cornflakes to neighborhood crows, or letting his grandkids feed the fish by the water. Learning his way around the kitchen, he was an excellent cook and baker, delighting everyone with pounds upon pounds of homemade fudge, salsa, and sweet treats. Gale loved nothing more than hosting family reunions, cookouts, and holiday gatherings—he was truly at his happiest whenever his entire family was gathered together. Gale was united in marriage for over 40 years to his beloved wife, Charolett Ann (Jones) Hood, who preceded him in death on April 5, 2024. A life lived with integrity, grit, and grace, Gale's legacy will live on in the many generations he loved and guided. Along with his parents and the love of his life, Charolett, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeannie Hood; brothers, Harlan "Buford" Hood (Sue), Robert Eugene "Bud" Hood, and Tim Lee Hood; sisters, Hallie Dean Adler; and brother-in-law, Stan Quary. Survivors include his loving children, Sherry Jones (Darrell) of Fairland, Jimmy Hood (Amy Hardwick) of Indianapolis, Ron Hood (Erica) of Mooresville, Heaven Reid (Josh) of Martinsville, Ronald Norwood of Indianapolis, Dwayne Norwood (Mandy) of Indianapolis, and Glenda Sluss (Joe) of Indianapolis; sisters, Beatrice “Jean” Query of Greencastle, Peggy Isaac (Milo) of Bedford, Mary Lawson (Frank) of Texas; along with a host of cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended in-laws, family members and friends. A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at 4:00pm, on August 24, 2026, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia, with visitation held prior to the service beginning at 2pm. Burial will immediately follow in Fairfield Friends Cemetery, Camby.
