Deborah Joan Taylor

Deborah Joan (Phillips) Taylor, 72, of Eminence, passed peacefully on Friday, October 25, 2024, due to complications sustained from end-stage pulmonary fibrosis. She was born in Bloomington, on July 24, 1952, to the late Ralph Phillips and Ruth (Blake) Russell. Equipped with English-styled humor, Debbie was a rather quiet, yet endearing subtly witted and fun being to have around. Debbie grew up in Monroe county, where she attended Needmore Schools in Bedford. Marrying the love of her life Murl Taylor, the two crossed paths in Plainfield and they went on to share in a love story that came to bless them with four children and countless memories that were made up until his passing in 2007. Selflessly devoted to service, her innate ability to remain vested to providing care and compassion for all people, animals and plants was selfless and amazing. A longtime friendly neighbor in the Eminence community, Debbie loved engaging herself in books, gardening, and puzzles. She was an excellent cook who made the best eggs, biscuits and gravy and a mean pot of chili. Finding her heart to be the fullest when surrounded by grandkids, her favorite destination was the beach and she really enjoyed taking trips and traveling. Debbie cherished her role as a matriarch and she loved nothing more than caring for her large loving family and the little people that lovingly referred to her as mamaw or grandma Debbie. Her legacy of love and service will forever resonate in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have shared in her life. Along with her parents, Ralph Phillips and Ruth Russell, she was preceded by her loving husband, Murl Taylor; and one sister, Wilma Mynatt. Survivors include her four beloved children, Angela Gibson (husband, Russell) of Eminence, Quentin Taylor of Mooresville, Jason Taylor of Mooresville, and Kelly Gaskins (husband, Doug) of Martinsville; 11 grandchildren, Christopher Gibson, Taylor Tracy (husband, Andrew), Hayleigh, Maighan and Liam Goskins, Kali Bischoff, Nathan, Logan, Morghan and Colin Taylor and Ali Avenatt; 4 great-grandchildren, Tatum and Kolsyn Tracy, Macklin Hannon, and Addie Bischoff; one sister and two brothers; along with two spoiled feline companions, Mittens, and Zoe. Cremation & Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. Friends and family will gather from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at the Corinth Baptist Church, 4875 Plano Road, Martinsville. A memorial service will follow at 7:00 pm and Pastor Jeff Brewer will officiate. The family will be privately scattering the ashes and a portion will lay her to rest aside from her late husband, Murl with an inurnment to be held at a later date in West Union Friends Cemetery in Monrovia.
