Dakota Owen

Dakota Alan Owen, 26 years old, of Eminence, prematurely passed from this life on Friday, April 12, 2019, in his residence. Born on December 10, 1992, in Danville, he was the only son of Mark and Karen (Riggs) Owen. Dakota was a typical little boy who was intrigued with collecting International and John Deer farm tractors. In grade school, he played little league baseball and graduated from Eminence High School in 2011. After losing his father in 2002, Dakota began focusing his attention towards music. Some of his favorite classical artists include the Beatles, REO Speed wagon and Pink Floyd, yet he was especially drawn to heavy metal and x103. Forming a band with high school friends, he enjoyed playing the drums and could even pick the guitar. Rationally seeking a degree in computer technology from Purdue, Dakota dreamed of living the Rockstar life in California, but was planning to finish his last semester this fall. Previously employed at Five Guys, he also delivered for Hungry Boilers while living in Lafayette and briefly worked as a teller at Eminence Citizens Bank. Always loved and supported by his parents and step-father, Larry DeMoss; to whom was also passionate about music, Dakota will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Along with his father, Mark Owen and step-father, Larry DeMoss, he was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Max and Margret (Terhune) Riggs; paternal grandparents, Robert Jr. and Frieda (Wallace) Owen; and aunt, Patty (Owen) Wells. Survivors include his loving mother, Karen (Riggs) Owen of Monrovia; step-brother, Doug DeMoss (wife, Debbie) of Monrovia; step-niece, Shyenne DeMoss; aunts and uncles, Linda Hughett (husband, Donnie) of Monrovia, Carolyn Dunbar (husband, Phillip) of Monrovia and Rhonda Hall (husband, Keith) of Clayton; along with a host of extended family members, cousins, classmates and friends. Friends and family will gather for visitation from 4 to 8 pm, on Wednesday, April 17, 2019, in Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., on Thursday, April 18, 2019, at the funeral home. Pastor Jack Elliott will officiate services and burial will take place next to his father in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall.
