Carl Jones

Carl Alan Jones, 68, of Monrovia, passed away within the comfort of his own home, while surrounded by the love of his family on Sunday, June 21, 2026. A man of incredible strength, resilience, and a laid-back demeanor, Carl lived a life defined by his fierce loyalty to his family and his ability to fix or build absolutely anything. Born on November 3, 1957, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Carl was the son of Gerald Jones and Zoe Ann (Penwell) Jones. He grew up with a passion for how things worked, graduating from Ben Davis High School with the Class of 1976. Carl took immense pride in his profession as an Electro-Mechanical Technician in the manufacturing sector. A brilliant problem solver, he spent his career working with intricate pharmaceutical machinery and lent his talents to notable organizations including Eli Lilly, K&W Products, and Medco. He even spent time working with the Indianapolis Indians. In addition, Carl previously owned and operated Sunrise 4-Wheel Drive on Rockville Road. A true master craftsman—he famously drew up the blueprints and completely built his own family home from the ground up. Carl met the love of his life, Linda Stonehouse, at a friend’s wedding reception during their high school years. They were married on January 25, 1986, and spent over 40 beautiful years completely head-over-heels for one another. The family recently gathered together to share a wonderful party celebration in honor of their milestone 40th wedding anniversary, a memory that will be forever cherished. Together, Carl and Linda built a life centered entirely around "Family First". Carl was a steadfast role model, he was incredibly proud to see all four of his boys achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. Carl was heavily involved in scouting traditions, including achieving the rank of Eagle Scout himself, the Order of the Arrow, Wood Badge, Fire Crafter, and actively serving as an Assistant Leader for Boy Scout Troop 219. He passed down his love for a crackling campfire, outdoor adventures, and a strong sense of personal pride. To his grandchildren, he was affectionately known as "Grandad"—a brave, smart, and loving anchor in their lives. Though he was known to be beautifully stubborn and would never dream of asking for help, he was always the first to offer it to a friend in need. Even when facing health ailments and a brain injury beginning in 2011, Carl’s perseverance never wavered, and he never once complained. A member of St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church for 35 years, Carl found great joy in the simple, authentic things in life. While he loved restoring old cars, watching NASCAR, attending the grandkids sporting events, and listening to music—as he loved all kinds of music, especially live—he loved nothing more in this world than spending time with his beloved wife, Linda. Whether they were traveling the world on one of their many grand adventures, just relaxing at home, or running simple everyday errands together, Carl was truly at his happiest just because he was with her. At home, his absolute favorite place to be was sitting out on his porch, watching his favorite shows, and keeping company with his faithful terrier-mix "shadow," Willy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Zoe Ann Jones; sister, Kathy Ford; brother-in-law, Steve Breeden. Carl’s legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Linda Jones of Monrovia; his four devoted sons, Brandon Winegard (Pam) of Evansville, Jake Jones (Kelly) of Hazelwood, Zach Jones of Noblesville, and Caleb Jones (Stephanie) of St. Paris, Ohio; brother, Gary Jones (Marion) of Bargersville; sister, Ellen Breeden of Leavenworth; sister-in-law, Sandy Ludlow of Indianapolis; and his seven cherished grandchildren, Kylie, Chloe, Gavin, Cheyanne, Emma, Karleigh, and Waylon. He also leaves behind his loyal four-legged companion, Willy. Friends and family are invited to visit from 3 to 8pm, on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11am, on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Martinsville. Burial will take place behind the church in St. Martin Cemetery and attendees are welcome to join others in a Celebration of Life gathering and meal following the ceremony.
