Bill Pitman

William "Bill-Bill" Robert Pitman, 71, lifelong resident of Martinsville, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, at his son's residence in Bloomington. He was born to Kedric and Patricia (Appleget) Pitman, in Morgan county, on March 26, 1946. A 1964 graduate of Martinsville High School, Bill was and a proud Hoosier and alumni of Indiana University. At the young age of 16, he was introduced to an 18 year old girl named, Janice; to whom they were blessed to share three children. After receiving his bachelor's degree, he went to work with his family at the Indianapolis Star, where he became the executive director of the newspaper. Eager to pursue his degree and endeavors, he formerly owned Easy Living Furniture and Family Auto Sales both in Martinsville, where he also deservingly retired due to health issues with his heart. William was quick-witted, funny and always full of jokes. A very well know and loved man, he enjoyed watching John Wayne movies and listening to music. He was knowledgeable about history and liked to tell the kids stories about his pastimes. Above all, he thoroughly enjoyed conversing and spending time with family and friends. He liked to listen to all kinds of music; including anything by Elvis. His favorite song was "Long Black Train" and his adored grandkids and great grandchildren were his pride and joy. A wheeler and dealer, Bill made the most of this life and will be deeply missed by many. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Lawrence Pryor; and a great nephew, Jayzon Goodmon. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Janice (Morgan) Pitman of Martinsville; three children, Kedric Pitman (wife, Sandra) of Martinsville, Lola Pitman of Martinsville and James "Jimmy" Pitman (wife, Tyra) of Bloomington; siblings, David Pitman, Steve Pitman, Judy Miller-Henson, Teresa Abney, and Paula Hess; ten grandchildren, Jessica Riddle, Michael Lund, Cody Pitman, Kylie Pitman, Josh Pitman, Angel Balder, Jordan Pitman, Jacob Pryor, Devin Pryor and Nicholas Pitman; seven great grandchildren, Zoey Scott, Alisha West, Chase Pitman, Gage Lund, Zayden Connell, Joseph Riddle, and Zaylee Connell; along with many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia, with visitation held an hour prior to the service; starting at 12 Noon. Burial will follow in I.O.O.F Cemetery in Waverly and his brother, Rev. Steve Pitman will officiate services.
