Betty Barnes

Betty Sue (Suite) Barnes, 75 of Danville, passed from this life on Friday, May 24, 2019, while surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of her own home after losing her 14-month battle with Small Cell Lung Cancer. She was born on August 26, 1943, in Cullman, Alabama, to the late Burton Jasper Suite and Hazel Janet Chambers. Betty attended elementary school in Eva, AL and later moved to California where she attended the first 2 years of High School. Her family then moved back to Eva where she graduated in 1961 from Eva High School. A classy, talented and detail-oriented woman, she found great joy in crafting, sewing and was an amazing artist. In addition, Betty was musically inclined, singing and playing the Accordion. Above all, she was a proud and wonderful mother to four daughters, the world’s best grandmother and faithful spouse of Dan Barnes. Known as a professional seamstress, Betty pursued her talents and opened Honeysuckle Rose in Brown County, Indiana in 1982 and successfully operated for ten years. Passionate about the beauty of nature, she found great joy relaxing on her patio enjoying her flowers. Without complaints, Betty radiated good vibes and made the most of life. Always up for a game of cards, rummy was her favorite and she enjoyed challenging her mind with memory games. Absent from body, yet very much alive in spirit and memory, Betty will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Donnie Jean and Pat. Survivors include her husband, Dan Barnes; children, Janet Wynn (husband, James) of Tomball, Texas; Beverly Dailey (husband, Reggie) of Clayton, Indiana; Sonja Burgess of Athens, Alabama; Carol Phelps (husband, Bubba) of Marquez, Texas; siblings, Janet “Anita” Jones (husband, Jerry) of Illinois and Burton “Danny” Suite (wife Enda) of North Carolina; along with 13 beloved grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and a feline companion, Smokey. Friends and family are invited to visit from 5 to 8pm, on Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 10:30am, on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, at the funeral home. Burial will take place in Clayton Cemetery and Pastor Keenan Steinway will be officiating the services.
