Richard L. Cooper Sr

July 22, 1949 - December 21, 2016

Richard L. “Rick” Cooper, Sr. 67, of Monrovia, passed from this life after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, at 12:10pm, on Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Countryside Meadows in Avon. He was born on July 22, 1949, in Indianapolis, to the late Horace and Lillian (Raridian) Cooper. Rick was a 1967 graduate of Mooresville High School. After graduation, he was set up on a blind date with a girl named, Becky Hughett. The first date didn’t go so well, yet after the second date... Becky knew Rick was the one for her. United in marriage on January 26, 1968, Becky and Rick were blessed with two sons and nearly fifty years of marriage. A hard working man, Rick drove for Lawyer Trucking for fifteen years and then later worked as a shop manager at Suburban Steel. A John Deere enthusiast, Rick was a member of the Morgan County Antique Farm Machinery Association, he was passionate about working on tractors and small engines. A familiar face in the community, Rick organized the tractor show during the Monrovia Festival for several years. Above all, he loved dogs and his grandkids, to whom he especially enjoyed teasing. He will be missed deeply by all. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Ronnie, Jerry, and Steve Cooper. Rick leaves behind his loving wife, Becky (Hughett) Cooper; sons, Richard “Rick” Cooper, Jr. (wife, Tracy) of Mooresville and Nick Cooper (companion, Karen Avanella) of Monrovia; grandchildren, John, Chyenne, Shane and Jordan Cooper; great grandchildren, Kyler, Kaiden, and Logan Cooper. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation from 4pm - 8pm, on Monday, December 26, 2016, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Graveside Service will begin at 11am, on Tuesday, December 27, 2016, in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer Association.
