Mike "Skeeter" Gibbs
October 27, 1953 - January 21, 2022
Michael Gene "Skeeter" Gibbs, 68, of Monrovia, was called to find peace after passing at 6:10am, on Friday, January 21, 2022, from within the comfort of his own home. The only son of Elvin Gene and Kathryn Laurabell (Smith) Gibbs, he arrived in the world on October 27, 1953, in Indianapolis Methodist Hospital. Mike graduated from Cascade High School in 1972 where he was actively involved in the school’s softball team. He gained employment at the Plainfield Correctional Facility where he worked his way up the ranks earning the right to be called lieutenant, deservingly retiring in 2009. A funny, caring, and giving soul, Mike was known to be tenacious at times, but was deeply rooted in family life. A homebody at heart, Mike enjoyed watching movies, golf and bowling. He truly loved his people, and was a proud husband, father, Grandpa, and Pap Pap. He will be forever missed by all who loved him. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in laws Mike Burch and Bruce Lauderman. Survivors include his loving wife, Reta (Lauderman) Gibbs of Monrovia; sons, Cory Michael Gibbs (wife, Jamie) and Ryan N. Gibbs both of Plainfield; stepson, David Wirey (wife, Casey) of Monrovia; sisters, Susan Burch of Amo and Kathy Wills of Plainfield; grandchildren, Jalie, Steven (wife, Bri), Neva, Renae, Lyla and Braden; mother and father-in-law, Ron and Fay Allbright of Shoals; along with a rambunctious Boston terroir and pug mixed pup named Sam. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2, with visitation held prior to the services from 10am to 2pm, on Tuesday, January 25, 2022, in Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia and Pastor Gordon Esterline will officiate. Burial will be held in Center Valley Cemetery, Clayton. Food and fellowship will immediately follow at the Monrovia Festival Building. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
