Michael A. Gilliam
February 10, 1964 - January 20, 2022
Michael “Mike” A. Gilliam, 57, of Clayton, left this world all too soon on January 20, 2022, while in the care of Hendricks Regional Hospital. He was born in Indianapolis on February 10, 1964, to Ellis C. and Betty J. (Dixon) Gilliam. Attending Avon High School, Mike proudly graduated with the class of 1984. Extremely talented in all aspects of life, he joined the IBEW 481 working as a journeyman electrician for several companies throughout the years, and most recently Shambaugh and Sons. Introduced to his future wife Stephanie by his sister, the pair hit it off instantly, falling fast in love. They sealed the deal on May 12, 2001, and spent the next 20 years happily married. With a desire to share their love and deep bond, Mike and Stephanie turned their dynamic duo into a tremendous trio with the birth of their only son, Michael Jr. Born to excel in his all endeavors, Mike’s talents knew no limits. He was knowledgeable and gifted in everything he did, from electricity, HVAC, woodworking, and mechanics; his aptitude for DIY projects surpassed all others. Being in, on, or around water brought him contentment and the family enjoyed taking their newly purchased Stingray 180 onto the surrounding lakes. Funny, witty, and outgoing, he was known to tell risqué jokes, bringing out hearty laughs in everyone he met. Above all, he was truly a devoted father to Michael. The father/son bond they shared was deep rooted in love and light. Mike passed on his wisdom, teaching him, by doing with him. They were best buds and thick as thieves, working on cars together, going to diesel truck events, car shows, shooting guns, or just hanging out in the garage listening to music and enjoying some well-deserved beers. He was a genuinely devoted husband and father and leaves a void that will never be filled. Mike is preceded in death by his father Ellis Gilliam, and brother, Paul Gilliam. He leaves behind his wife Stephanie L. (Bath) Gilliam of Clayton; adored son Michael A. Gilliam, Jr. of Clayton; sisters Deborah Klutts (Kevin) of Plainfield, Susan Kurtz of Monrovia, Michele Bair (John), of Plainfield; along with his nieces Ashley Hempfling (Travis) of Mooresville, Sara Janniche (Matt), Jennifer Bair, all of Plainfield. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Friends and family are invited to gather for visitation on Tuesday, January 25, from 4 to 7pm., at the funeral home. A Celebration of Life Service will begin promptly on Wednesday, January 26 at 12pm, with an additional hour of calling held prior. Pastor Mark Boswell will officiate services and Mike will ride in the back of Michael’s 1992 Dodge Ram W250 for entombment in Maple Hill Cemetery.
