Gayle Ream

October 4, 1935 - June 9, 2022

Gayle Genevieve (McDaniel) Ream, 86, of Mooresville, completed her earthly journey at 5:07pm, on Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Hendricks Regional Hospital, in Danville. She was born on October 4, 1935, in Urbana, Ohio, to the late Henry and Dorothy (Bowers) McDaniel. Arriving in the world during the Great Depression, the calloused youth of Gayle McDaniel took place on a farm in Champagne County, Ohio. After the premature death of her father, Gayle and her younger sister were given responsibilities at a young age. After attending Kings Creek High School, she met her soulmate and love of her life, John, who was six years her senior. The pair were united in marriage in April of 1954. Relocating to Indiana for work, the newlywed couple settled into the quiet small-town life of Mooresville. Securing employment as a Dental Hygienist for a period, Gayle was then afforded the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mother, raising her four young boys. When the kids were grown, she went to work for the Governor’s Pool in the Secretary of Appeals Department, later retiring from the State Highway Department. A true matriarch, Gayle was an excellent cook, loved sewing, gardening, and crafts. A member of the Red Hat Society, she supported her husband’s interests in old cars, joining the Historic Auto Club, as well as the Antique Car Club. Born to shop, she frequently traveled to Edinburg for deals. Later in life, she and John discovered their passion for traveling, visiting Jamaica, as well as her favorite vacation destination, the Bahamas. Choosing to smile, was one of her many superpowers and she had a laugh that will forever be remembered and deeply missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry, and Dorothy (Bowers) McDaniel, sister, Amaryllis (McDaniel) Castle, and brother-in-law, Richard Castle. Survivors include her loving husband, John Melvin Ream of Mooresville, four sons, David Ream of Mooresville, John Ream (wife, Jeanette) of Mooresville, Richard Ream of Connersville, and Dan Ream (wife, Denise) of Mooresville; grandchildren, John Douglas of Mooresville, Jennifer Davis (husband, Greg) of Monrovia, Sam Ream of Brooklyn, Seth Ream of Mooresville, Ryan Wells of California, Stephanie Badger of Plainfield, Jeremy Ream of Monrovia, Jackie Fox (husband, Joe) of Mooresville; great grandchildren, Kaden and Kyra Davis, Shawn Ream, Natalie Cordray, along with Grant, Weston and Oaklyn Fox; nephews, Rick and Mike Castle. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:00pm, on Wednesday, June 15, 2022, with calling held prior to the services from 11:00am. Pastor Richard Dickison will be officiating the services and she will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
