Warren "Woody" Wood

Warren "Woody" Wood, 71, of Eminence, passed from this life at 4:19 p.m., Tuesday, December 15, 2020, in Franciscan St. Francis Hospital, South Campus. Born to the late, Wilfred Wayne and Helen P. (White) Wood, in Champion, Illinois, he was welcomed into the world on July 18, 1949. A proud 1967 graduate from Coal Creek Central, Woody attended Purdue University for 3 years, studying animal husbandry. It was there he met his future wife, Colleen. He instantly knew she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with. After a brief courtship, he asked her father for permission to marry, and Colleen said yes. The two began their 51-year love affair. Throughout the years, Warren held many positions, wearing many hats, building fences, buying livestock, was the superintendent for the 4-H poultry, and owned the Cloverdale Sale Barn for 2 years. Woody eventually settled into the position as a custodian for the Mooresville Consolidated Schools, where he deservingly retired in 2008 after dedicating 20 years of service. In his free time, Woody raised and showed buff brahma chickens, often judging 4-H shows. A truly loving, kind and gentle soul, he could strike up conversation with anyone. He enjoyed telling stories, making people laugh, and was a genuinely devoted family man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Warren leaves behind his devoted wife, Colleen (Stewart) Wood of Eminence; children, William Wood (wife, Michelle) of Brazil, and David Wood of Eminence; brother, David Wayne Wood (wife, Nancy) of Dekalb, IL; grandchildren, Cody Wood (wife, Mandi), Brittany Wood Saylor (husband, Zach), Ethan Wood (wife, Katee), all of Martinsville, Zane Wood of Eminence, and Savanah Wood of Brazil; and 5 great grandchildren, Waylon, Jonah, Reagan, Lucas, and Karliegh. Cremation Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia. Services will not be observed at this time and a memorial may possibly be held at a later date.
