Shirley Morelock

Shirley Jean (Barnette) Morelock, 78, of Indianapolis, was released of all earthly ailments and was called home to Heaven on Wednesday, April 22, 2020, in Washington Health Care, Indianapolis. She was born on June 14, 1941, in Kingsport, Tennessee, to the late James Henry and Lona Viola (Harrison) Barnette. Attending elementary school in Kingsport, Shirley was the middle child of two brothers. Native to the banks of the Holston river, the Barnette family was kin to the legacy of infamous bootleggers that ran the hills and hollows of Tennessee. Shirley periodically worked at the local factory, Sergeant Paint alongside her family and sadly lost her father to whom she was very close with at the age of 9. Establishing a home and family of her own during her adolescence, Shirley married Charles “Reece” Loyd and became the blessed young mother of three children. One that was baptized in the river and equipped to weather the storm, she was a one-man band who carried the spirit of a pitbull. With a tough hide and tender heart, she could take down a lion in one bite. Shirley was united in marriage with Kyle Junior Morelock and after they raised the kids in Indianapolis, she moved back to Tennessee until her debilitating battle with Alzheimer’s began. Set free from the last ten years of ailments, Shirley will always remain loved and forever missed. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her children’s father, Charles “Reece” Loyd and former spouse, Kyle Junior Morelock and a beloved grandson, Stevie VanArsdall. Survivors include her three children, Jeff Loyd (wife, Donna) of Indianapolis, Glinda Loyd of Indianapolis and Carolyn VanArsdall (husband, Steve) of Monrovia; brothers, Robert Barnett (wife, Debbie) of Pittsboro and William “Harold” Barnette (wife, Jackie) of Alabama; grandchildren, Jason Loyd, Nicole Loyd Walker, Jeremy Loyd, Jessica Maher (husband, Joseph) of Avon, Jake VanArsdall of Monrovia; great grandchildren, Corbin Walker (wife, Nicole), JJ Loyd and Samuel Maher; great great grandson, Ethan Walker. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Cremation Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia and due to state guidelines, services will not be conducted at this time. Shirley will be laid to rest beside her parents in Beech Creek Cemetery, Tennessee with inurnment to take place at a later date.
