Ruffice Calahan

Ruffice Roy Calahan, 53, of Monrovia, passed from this life and took flight in spirit on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at 8:53 p.m, in Majestic Care of Avon. He was born on December 25, 1965, in Indianapolis, Indiana; to Thomas and Lorrena (Miles) Calahan. Ruffice graduated from Monrovia High School in 1984. He was a proud football player for the Bulldogs and threw discus in track. Ruffice’s love for people was huge. He would go out of his way to help-out anyone. Working in various positions through out his lifetime, he was a landscaper, ORAC corrections officer and an ambulance driver at Gregg Township. Proudly inducted into the Lacota and Cherokee, he followed his father’s footsteps and had been a member of the NatoTribe Organization for 20 years. In addition to embracing life in general, Ruffice treated everyone equal and never met a stranger. Always on the move, his happy place was found in the great outdoors. His all time favorite was working in the garden! He liked to drive and to sing but above all, his daughter was his greatest joy. Ruffice was indeed a proud father, a great son and a cherished brother. He will be greatly missed by his loving family and all his kin folk and friends. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Ruben Thomas and Velvet Lena (Howard) Calahan, Survivors include his parents, Thomas and Lorrenea (Miles) Calahan of Monrovia; beloved daughter, Angel McKenzie Calahan of Sheffield Alabama; siblings, Kimberly Pruitt (husband, Mark) of Monrovia, Vincent Calahan (wife, Dana) of Stilesville, Jeffery Calahan (wife, Monica) of Monrovia and Timothy Calahan (wife, Melissa) of Avon; along with his special friend whom he was a caregiver to, James Auther Ruddick of Indianapolis, and his trusty canine companion, Gizmo. Friends and family are invited to visit from 6pm to 8pm, on Monday, May 27, 2019, in Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2:00 pm, on Tuesday, May 28, 2019, at the funeral home, with Native American burial rights to follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall.
