Robert "Gene" Meyer

Robert “Gene” Meyer, 76, of Mooresville, passed from this life at 4:50 a.m., on Thursday, February 9, 2017, while surrounded by his loving family, at the Waters of Martinsville. He was born on July 27, 1940, in Belle Union, to the late John and Mary (Howald) Meyer. Gene attended Monrovia High School, where he later provided custodial services during the 70’s. He transferred from the Monroe – Gregg School District in 1984 and served as a janitor at the Mooresville Consolidated Schools until deservingly retiring in 2006. A friendly, familiar face in the community, Gene was a humble, hardworking man with a great personality. Above all, he was a loving husband and father to his three children; to whom brought pure happiness and purpose in life. In addition to being fond of his Harley, he favored his grabber blue mustang. Built Ford tough, Gene was a mustang enthusiast. His family will cherish his memory and embrace the bittersweet memories of impromptu picnics, fishing, going on camping trips, seeing the foliage in Brown county, traveling to state parks and the Smokey Mountains. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dorothy Arthur, Mavis, Annie, Chester and Lloyd Meyer. Survivors include his loving wife, Teresa (LaVullis) Meyer of Mooresville; to whom he was united in marriage on February 24, 1990; adored children, Angela Frye of Connorsville, Sarah Huber (husband, Don) of Monrovia and Kyle Meyer of Mooresville; sister, Wilma King of Plainfield; grandchildren, Celeste, Savannah, Daniel, Gracie, Madyson and Paisley; siblings by marriage, Tonya and Kenny Willis, David and Mandy LaVullis, and Damon and April Bowers. Friends and family may visit from 2:00—6:00 p.m., on Sunday, February 12, 2017, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 11:00 a.m., Monday, February 13, 2017, at the funeral home. Burial will follow services and Gene will be laid to rest in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
