Paul Hernly Jr.

Emerson “Paul” Hernly, Jr, 74, of Monrovia, sadly passed from this life on Tuesday, January 21, 2020, in Miller’s Merry Manor. One of seven children, he was born on July 16, 1945, in Indianapolis, to the late Emerson Paul, Sr. and Doris Hernly. Paul graduated from Southport High School in 1964. An honorable veteran of the United States Army, he bravely served during the Korean War. He held a reputable 30-year career with Mooresville Block and later worked on the outside maintenance department at St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville. A jack of all trades and avid outdoorsman, Paul enjoyed the simple things in life like camping and taking trips in the travel trailer to visit state parks. Taking pride in his home and family, he always kept busy with landscaping, woodworking, collecting various kinds rocks and tinkering with his model car collection. In addition, he was a friendly neighbor and a faithful past member of the Mooresville Friends Church. Quiet, kind, gentle and caring, Paul genuinely loved helping others and he never met a stranger nor spoke an ill word of anyone. The first to step up and clean after gatherings, he had a special way of connecting with people. His sense of humor was welcomed by all and he was known to get the grandkids riled up and belly laughing at his fart machine noises. A life well lived, Paul will be deeply missed and always remembered by the ones who were blessed to know and love him. Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years, Diana Lynn (Terrell) McCloud Hernly of Monrovia; children, Robert McCloud (wife, Marcy) of Monrovia, Shane McCloud (wife, Tina) of Monrovia, Josh Hernly (wife, Timantha) of Bloomington, Lucretia Hernly of Missouri, and Tonya Merritt (husband, Josh) of Monrovia; siblings, Winnie Wallace (husband, Jim) of Winchester, Pauline Moeller of Versailles, Rhonda Baldwin of Winchester, Phil Hernly (wife, Patty) of Kentucky, Frank Hernly (wife, Jude) of Mooresville, and Sheryl Hernly of Florida; grandchildren, Cody (wife, Kirsten), Linsey, Spencer, Alan, Genie, Jessica, Maggie, Noah, Isaiah, Lelaina, Elias, Kohen, Owen and Carsyn; great grandchildren, Colton and Kennedy. Friends and family will gather at Gasburg Baptist Church in Mooresville, on Saturday, February 8, 2020, with a visitation from 11 am to 1 pm, and the Celebration of Life Service beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. Funeral and Cremation Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia.
