Jim Hirchert

James A. Hirchert, 62, of Martinsville, reached the end of his earthly journey on Saturday, January 18, 2025, in Methodist Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born on November 7, 1962, in Chadron, Nebraska, to the late William and Marion (Martin) Hirchert. Living in Nebraska, Minnesota, and Oklahoma, as a child, Jim’s family finally settled in Indiana where he graduated from Plainfield High School in 1981. He then went on to earn his associate's degree from ITT Technical Institute and secured employment with MASCO; working as a master installer of insulation for the next 25 plus years. A die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers Football fan, Jim never missed an opportunity to cheer on his favorite team. Growing up, Jim felt the need for speed and developed a great appreciation for racing cars. He particularly enjoyed muscle cars and continued to tinker on his vehicles throughout his life. Jim was a true outdoorsman and loved nothing more than spending summers at camp grounds, relaxing on a lake, and going on regular hunting trips with family and friends. He had an especially large soft spot for Labrador Retrievers and spent many years breeding and training them to hunt fowl and participate in competitions at the fairgrounds. Not one to shy away from attention, Jim thrived in the heat of the moment and he could strike up a conversation with people wherever he went. Showing up with a full cup of sarcasm and a pocket packed full of wit, Jim was full throttle at most of the things he did in life. The eighties hair bands, heavy metal and classic rock music was felt in his soul and provided a fitting sound track for the way he lived life. Above all, Jim was funny, stubborn, and his adventurous spirit has forever left its mark on the world and in the hearts of all who he knew and loved. Along with his parents, Jim was preceded in death by his brother, Mike Hirchert. Survivors include his three children, Travis Hanger of Plainfield, Lauren Rawlins (husband, James) of Plainfield, Nicholas Hirchert of Terre Haute; brother, Tom Hirchert (wife, Becky) of Florida; niece, Shellie Hirchert (companion, Eddie Terhune) of Monrovia; grandchildren, Jordan, Chase, Valirae, Tanner; along with many extended family members and cherished friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 1:00pm, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service beginning at Noon with Keenan Steinway officiating and burial will follow in White Lick Cemetery, Mooresville.
