Jewell C. (Burchett) Scott, 85, of Brooklyn, passed peacefully from this life on Monday, June 14, 2021, with her loving family at her side, rejoining her beloved husband Paul in heaven. She was born in Kidds Store, KY on February 10, 1936 to the late Sam and Arlie Sue (Holt) Burchett. Raised in the serene beauty on a small farm in Casey County, KY, Jewell’s mother taught her the joy of cooking, fixing, and serving hot meals to anyone seated at the table. She enjoyed listening to music and hanging out with her siblings at the old general store located across the road from the farm. At the tender age of 19, she married the love of her life Paul, with a simple ceremony conducted in his aunt’s house. The newlywed couple ventured north for a more prosperous life, living in Mooresville for a brief period before purchasing their forever home in Brooklyn, where they spent 64 glorious years together. Most comfortable surrounded by the presence of children, Jewell babysat the neighborhood kids earning a stellar reputation as a loving and devoted matriarch, fierce protector and all around mother hen. She spent her Sunday mornings attending church, serving as the Sunday school teacher at West Newton Full Gospel Tabernacle, before co-founding the Way of the Cross Full Gospel Tabernacle Church. A master of the word search, Jewell truly enjoyed housework and gardening, faithfully keeping a tidy home, while canning her fresh vegetables. When you came to see her, she made sure you never left hungry, even keeping her children’s favorite snacks in the pantry. Her sweet nature and jovial laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Along with her parents, Jewell was preceded in death by her soulmate, Reverend Paul Scott; and siblings William, Garnet, James C., Buford, Louise, Roger Dale, and Georgia Christine Burchett, Sadie Durham, Lucille Gilbert, and Piney Lane. She is survived by her children, Gary Scott (Alesa) of Brooklyn, Jeanie Scott of Mooresville, Tom Scott (Tammy Scott), Rodney Scott (Charity) both of Mooresville, and Paula Hansel (James) of Brooklyn; grandson, Nathan V. Scott (Valerie Scott) of Ellettsville; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, June 21, 2021, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel. A Celebration of Life Service will begin promptly at 7:00 p.m., Pastor James Hansel, Paula Hansel and Nathan Scott will officiate, and services will be livestreamed live on Light Memorial’s Facebook page. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 22 in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Way of the Cross Full Gospel Tabernacle Church Benevolent Fund.
