Jan McDevitt

Janet “Jan” Claire (Veroneau) McDevitt, 73, of Monrovia, and formerly of Springfield, Massachusetts, passed suddenly and unexpectedly from this life on Thursday, August 23, 2018, at Miller’s Merry Manor. She was born on August 11, 1945, in Holyoke, Massachusetts to the late Telesphore and Eleanor (Clement) Veroneau. Jan’s story originated in Springfield, Massachusetts, where she met the love of her life at a young age. Although Bill initially thought of her to be a spoiled little girl, his feelings matured when they started dating in high school. Faithfully pledging a lifetime commitment of tender love and care, they were united in marriage on July 20, 1963; sharing four loving children and countless cherished memories. Moving to Indiana in the early 90’s, Bill went to work for Link-Belt in ’92 while Jan selflessly stayed to tie up business affairs; settling their family into their home at Briarwood Lake in 1993. Finding a job in Plainfield, she worked as a courier for the prison and deservingly retired in 2013. Throughout her life, Jan enjoyed line dancing, cooking, knitting and playing games with family. Above all, her world revolved around her husband, children and grandchildren. Family was always placed before everything and she was quick to jump at every opportunity to make trips and travel to visit them. In addition, she was a member of St Thomas More Catholic Church in Mooresville and the Loyal Order of Moose in Greenwood. A loving, caring, beautiful, kind, colorful, compassionate and considerate woman, everyone that knew her, even for a short amount of time, loved her. Often referred to as the sweetest person ever met, Jan McDevitt was the matriarch above all other matriarchs. Possessing a warm presence and kind heart, she was without a doubt deeply loved and will forever be profoundly missed. Along with her parents, Jan was preceded in death by her siblings, Jacqueline Bressette Minkle, Bernard Veroneau, and Paul Veroneau; and sister in law, Toni Jolly. Survivors include her loving husband, William “Bill” McDevitt of Monrovia; children, Scott McDevitt (wife, Beverly) of North Pole, Alaska, Lisa Pantoja (husband, Martin) of Cedar Park, Texas, Dawn Gurski (husband, John) of Hampden, Massachusetts, and Kerry Vona (husband, John) of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; brother, Roger Veroneau (wife, Mãn); brothers in law, Francis McDevitt (wife, Shirley), Jimmy Magiera (wife, Terrie); sister in law, Helen Flebotte; and adored grandchildren, Kayley, Brittney, Matthew, Alexandra Claire, Lilah, Calleigh and Landen. Friends and family will gather for visitation held from 5 to 7 p.m., on Wednesday, August 29, 2018, in Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Catholic Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m., on Thursday, August 30, 2018, in St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1200 N. Indiana St., Mooresville. Father Francis will officiate services and cremation will follow. Memorial Services will be held out of state and will take place at a later date in Massachusetts.
