James K. Alsup

James Alsup, 70, of Indianapolis, left this world unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. He was born in Martinsville, IN on October 25, 1954, to the late Charles and Willa Mae (Marlow) Alsup. Growing up in Camby, James was the youngest of eleven children and found his passion for baseball at an early age, playing on a little league team. After proudly graduating from Mooresville High School with the class of 1972, he went into the construction business, owning his own company where he was a talented handyman who took pride in his work. In addition, he managed several United Gas Stations through the years. After retiring, he secured employment with Trinity Security part time to keep himself busy. Living most of his adult life in Mars Hill, James could be found on Friday and Saturday nights at the West Newton ball diamonds playing on a pre-pro league baseball team and was ready to move up to the pro league with his innate talent. Not one to start a conversation, but when engaged he was all in. A quiet and reserved man, James became the devoted caregiver for his mother while she was in failing health, and his love for her was utterly abundant. He found pleasure in attending family picnics in Brown County, spending time with those he was closest to. A bit of a loner in his life, he was easy-going, never raised his voice, nor had a bad word to say. He absolutely loved the Cincinnati Reds and thoroughly enjoyed cheering them on. Gone but not forgotten, James will remain in the hearts of his large and loving family. Along with his parents, James was preceded in death by his siblings, David, Tom, Bill, Sue, Ralph, Carol, along with two infant sisters, Linda Joyce and Shirley Ann Alsup. James leaves behind his brother, Dan Alsup of Greenwood; nieces and nephews, Lora Allen (Johnny) of Clay City, Floyd Alsup of NV, Tree Alsup of TN, Jason Alsup (Kim) of Camby, Joseph Alsup, Benny Alsup (Tiffany), Michael Alsup, all of Camby, Aaron Alsup (Cruz Acousta) of Indianapolis, Charity Burgess (Mike) of Camby, Ken Alsup (Dana) of Plainfield, Kim Sink of Mooresville, Tim Alsup (Laura) of Eckerty, Heidi Shultz of FL, Tricia Mobley of Lafayette, Marie Payton of Plainfield, Jackie Payton of Indianapolis, and Barbara Alsup of Martinsville; sister in laws, Carolyn and Barbara Alsup of Camby. Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Family and friends are invited to Celebrate James' Life on Saturday, March 29, 2025, with visitation held from 11 a.m. until 1:00 pm, at the West Newton Worship and Youth Center, 7860 S.
