Jack L. Bray

Jack L. Bray, 85, lifelong resident of Monrovia, passed from this life at 6:00pm, on September 15, 2020, while in the care of Plainfield Health Care. He was born in Indianapolis on October 29, 1934, the youngest child of the late Herman Atlas and Adah Leanna (Bray) Bray. A proud 1952 graduate of Monrovia High School, it was there he met his future wife and soul mate, Jean. She knew he was the one for her when she saw his red and silver car. Excelling in sports, Jack played on the baseball and basketball teams, scoring the legendary winning basket against a rivaling neighbor town at the last minute of a heated game. After graduation, Jack and Jean built their first house in Monrovia on Pray Street and started their happy family. He worked at the Indianapolis Stockyards for several years, before securing employment at Eastern Airlines, before retiring in 1990. A homebody by nature, Jack had a green thumb and was passionate about landscaping. A joker at heart, Jack thoroughly enjoyed teasing people, especially the guys at work. Strict, yet loving he was a devoted family man, softening with age. He will be missed by all who knew him. Along with his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his siblings, Jo Shuler, Rowland Bray and Bob Bray; and infant son, Jack Douglas Bray. Jack leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Charlotte “Jean” (Belcher) Bray; children, Lee Bray (wife, Brenda) of Mooresville, Robin Green (husband, Chris) of Greenwood, Joni Hurt (husband, Alan) of Mooresville, Liz Jenkins (husband Rick) of Mooresville and Jean Bray of Camby; grandchildren, Andrew, Matt, Danton, Haley, Conner, Kristen, Megan, Daniel, Jack, Cara, Adam, Ben, Will and Ellie; great grandchildren, Greyson, Reece, Quinn, Avery, Denton and Rhett. Cremation and Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel. Friends and family are invited to gather for a Graveside Service on Wednesday, September 23, at 1:00pm in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall, and Jim Shields will officiate. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in Jack’s memory, to St. Jude Children’s research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
