Hazel Bernice (Dewar) Ellis, age 87, of Plainfield, Indiana and formerly of Mooresville, passed from this life at 1:15pm, on Friday, January 4, 2019, while surrounded by her loving children and within the comfort of her home. Hazel was born November 12, 1931, in Brown County, Indiana, to the late Albert and Julia (Lucas) Dewar. Hazel attended Mooresville High School and married Charles “Willard” Ellis on September 19, 1948; to whom she was blessed to find great purpose in being a selfless mother of five children. Diligently sharing the word of Christ with all who crossed her path, Hazel was an active listener and always praying for others. She was a member of Lakeview Christian church for many years. With an altruistic nature, her large heart was worn on her sleeve. Full of kindness and compassion, she lived by example. Truly loving all of God’s children, Hazel had a warm smile, a welcoming presence and went above and beyond to care for her family and others. A tireless prayer warrior and Sunday school teacher, she managed to see the best in everyone and did not ever speak ill of anyone. Her conservative focus and strong faith truly made this world a brighter place. Deeply loved and greatly missed, Hazel’s infinite love and eternal light will forever shine with life in the glorious kingdom of Heaven. Along with her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her grandchildren, Joshua Ellis and infant baby Ellis; four siblings, Robert, Albert, Herman, and David Dewar; and great niece, Morgan Ashley Green. Survivors include her loving children; three sons, Robert, Joseph and Philip Ellis and two daughters, Debra Gastineau all of Plainfield and Sandy Hunter of Heritage Lake; 11 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; along with two sisters, Brenda Purvis of Avon and Doris Sampson(husband, Jim) of New Albany, Kentucky and many extended family members and friends. Friends and family are invited to visit from 12Noon, on Saturday, January 12, 2019, in the Monrovia Christian Church, 710 Gordon Road in Monrovia. Pastor David Gibson will officiate a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at 1:00 p.m., with a time for food and fellowship to follow in the church. Cremation and Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to assist with Joe’s long-term care and living expenses.
