George "Eddie" Edward Rice

George “Eddie” Rice, 50, of Indianapolis and formerly Martinsville, left this world unexpectedly and all too soon on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on December 15, 1971, to William John Rice, Sr. and Eva Irene (Arrington) Henderson. The youngest of three and beloved baby of the family, Eddie was a fun and sometimes mischievous child. At the tender age of three, the household packed up and headed north, leaving the tropical climate of Florida and settling into the rural life of Morgan County. He attended Martinsville High School where he was a talented basketball player. Gaining employment at Fred’s Family Restaurant as the best cook ever, it was there he met his soulmate and future wife, Emily. He courted her for ten years, and the pair vowed their everlasting love in June of 1998. A hard worker, and one not to be content with the mundane, Eddie held several jobs in his life, including Nice-Pak and Diversified Cleaning, until being diagnosed with Marfan Syndrome in 1995. Enduring several heart surgeries throughout the years ultimately left him permanently disabled, robbing him of the everyday joys taken for granted by healthy people. In his time, he was a fervent sports fan, frequently yelling at the TV while watching basketball or following Jeff Gordon and Kyle Larson in the NASCAR circuit. A devoted father and husband, Eddie was a no-nonsense dad, ensuring his boys walked the straight and narrow, while remaining loving and caring. Continuously worried about the wellbeing of Emily yet restricted by his disorder, he did his best to safeguard her needs and wants. Meticulous and sometimes eccentric, Eddie kept up on world affairs as well as politics, finding great pleasure in passing on news to those around him. Blessed with his first grandson two months ago, he was a proud grandpa. Although his time on earth was too short, he leaves a legacy of love and light and will be forever missed. Eddie was preceded in death by his father, William Rice, stepfather, Don Henderson, and son, Nicholas Rice. He leaves behind his wife, Emily Anne (Scholl) Rice of Indianapolis; mother, Irene Henderson of Monrovia; son, Cody Rice (Autumn) of Indianapolis; grandson, Finlee Rice; siblings, Cindy Rice (Mark) of Monrovia, Billy Rice (Sonya) of Lewisville, Kassie Dabiau (Raymond) of Brooklyn, and Chastity Bailey of TX, Don Henderson of Mooresville, John A. Henderson (wife, Debbie) of Camby, Lori Faulkenberg (husband, Eric) of Monrovia,; nephew and niece, Michael Tackett (Martha) of Indianapolis, and Makayla Rice of Brazil. Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Friends and family are invited to gather from 11 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6 with a Celebration of Life Service beginning promptly at 1:00 p.m. Pastor Keenen Steinway will officiate, and burial will follow in Mt Pleasant Cemetery, Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, 585 E Main St, Monrovia, IN 46157 to help offset his final expenses, and envelopes will be available during services.
