Donna "Susie" J. Banks

Donna J. “Susie” (Wiles) Banks, 78, of Columbus and formerly of Edinburgh, passed peacefully from this life on Tuesday, December 30, 2025. She was born in Indianapolis on February 9, 1947, to the late Herschel Wiles and Dorothy H. (Leonard) Whitted. Originally attending Mooresville Elementary School, Susie’s family moved south where she proudly graduated with the class of 1965 from Edinburgh High School. Her mother ran her own business there, “Dorothy’s Donut Shop”, and Donna earned the nickname “Donut Susie” while working there. She later was employed at Marsh grocery store as a talented baker. A faithful servant to God, she attended Who So Ever Will Community Church in Edinburg. A flower lover and master gardener, Susie always had a window full of house plants and a huge flower garden in her front yard. Her last big outing was to Miss M's Home and Garden in Bargersville, where she thoroughly enjoyed shopping. An avid reader, her books of choice were memoirs, documentaries, and true crime. She enjoyed playing old westerns, bingo on Tuesdays, where she regularly won things for her beloved grandchildren. Sarcastically funny, Susie got quite the kick out of making those around her laugh, as well as scaring them on a regular basis. Truly a devoted Christian, Mother Teresa was her hero, and she went out of her way to help those in need, especially the homeless. Gone but not forgotten, Susie will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Along with her parents, Susie was preceded in death by her siblings, Clancy Fishero, Annie Powers, Betty Archer, and Patty Beck. She leaves behind her two daughters, Penny Banks Holbrook of Columbus, and Candra “Candi” Leach (Gene) of Bristol, TN; siblings, Sandy Whitted (Cheri) of Edinburgh, and David Whitted (Linda) of Shelbyville, grandchildren, Seth T Holbrook of Taylorsville, William Holbrook of Taylorsville, Ben Holbrook of Columbus, and Holly Holbrook of Taylorsville, Dr. Samuel L. Brashears (Torey-Bates Samuel) and Sarah Brashears, all of Bristol, TN; seven great grandchildren; sister in law, Kathleen Fishero of Camby; special cousin, Jennifer Horner (Mike) of Avon; and best friend who was like a sister from a very young age, aka bag lady, Sandee Saberton Hamilton of Edinburgh. Cremation and Funeral Arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. Susie will be inurned in Crown Center Cemetery, the date is pending at this time, and Pastor Keenan Steinway will officiate a Graveside Service.
