David "Romain" Day

David “Romain” Day, 92, of Monrovia, passed from this life and into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 11, 2020, while in the care of The Springs of Mooresville. He was born the oldest child of seven children to the late Alva Burl and Frances Marie (Davis) Day on March 17, 1928 in Nashville, Indiana. As a young boy, he attended Paragon school, the old Wilbur schoolhouse and Hall school. With a strong work ethic at a young age, Romain went to work for the historic sanitarium in Martinsville. He later secured employment with Chevrolet before retiring from Allison’s as a nickel plater at age fifty-two. With a keen sense of humor and a passion for mowing grass, Romain opened a lawn care business with the slogan “We cut your grass, we don’t smoke it”. Adored by his siblings, and especially Dottie, Romain could do no wrong. Talented at throwing knives, he once asked Dot to place an apple on her head; he then threw a knife and hit his mark; A story to be told to generations throughout the years. A soul full of energy, Romain didn’t stay in one place long. Always one to enjoy the spotlight, he was a great boxer, danced famously on roller skates and could ride a bicycle backwards. With a thick head full of red hair, he was a true ladies man, wooing in the best of them with his charming demeanor and contagious smile. A talented guitar player, he enjoyed playing his Gibson acoustic guitar. Devoutly religious, Romain’s deep faith in the Lord never wavered. He was a member of the Gasburg Baptist church and the Eternal Life Baptist Church. A proud and dedicated father, he loved people and especially his family. Romain leaves this world with a legacy of love, light, peace and harmony. Along with his parents, Romain was preceded in death by his former wives, Pauline Golden Disney and Tommie (Thomas) Day; siblings, Phyllis Sanford and Coleen VanHook; and granddaughter, Mariah Marian McDowell. Romain leaves behind his former wife, Eva (Walls) Sutherland of Arizona; children, Pamela Zahn (husband, Bill) of Colorado, Douglas Day (wife, Nancy) of Arizona, Terry Day (wife, Barb) of Terre Haute, Susan Harrison (husband, Marshall) of Camby, Rita Day of Greenwood, Kevin “Dewey” Day ( wife, Kathy) of Monrovia, Danny Day (wife, Liz) of Indianapolis, and Alva Burl Day (wife, Angelique) of Greenwood; siblings, Cleo Landry of Indianapolis, Dorothy “Dottie” Speck of Monrovia, Darlene Hadley of Camby, and Paul Day of Plainfield; several nieces and nephews; along with twenty-five grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Friends and family are invited to visit from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Monday, November 16, 2020, at Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. A Celebration of Life Service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 17, 2020. Pastor Kenny Hayden will officiate the services and burial will immediately follow in Nebo Memorial Park Cemetery in Martinsville, where a horse drawn carriage will deliver Mr. Day to his final resting. COVID-19 Statewide Mandate: funeral home capacity may not exceed fifty people at one time. Attendees are required to provide their own masks and wear facial coverings throughout the duration of services.
