Cheryl Kay Martin

Cheryl Kay (Easton) Martin, 76, passed peacefully from this life on Friday, September 29, 2023, while in the care of St. Francis Hospital South Campus, surrounded by her loving family. She was born the third child of four in Indianapolis on September 6, 1947, to the late Allen D. and Loretta A. (Medlen) Easton. Raised on the west side of Indianapolis, Cheryl attended George Washington High School, where she reveled in spending time with her best girlfriends. As a young girl, she was introduced to the love of her life and future husband, Tom Martin, a handsome young country boy. After a four-year courtship, the young and in love couple were joyously united in marriage on September 21, 1963 spending the next sixty years together. Settling in Morgan County, the newlyweds originally lived in a small house on family property, later building their forever home in the early 70’s. A stay-at-home mother, Cheryl basked in not only caring for her children, but the neighborhood kids as well, and later her cherished grandbabies. Utterly crafty by nature, she was a master at aiding with school projects. Thoroughly involved in their lives, she was a stellar room mom, throwing top notch parties with delicious snacks and entertaining games. Serving as Cheer Director and Cheer Coach for the Monrovia Youth Football Organization, her life revolved around the ones she held dear. The family of four enjoyed vacationing in Florida, pulling their camper, where they frequently visited Disney World. As the children grew and she was needed less, Cheryl took a position with the Reporter/Times where she was put in charge of subscriptions and collections and was employed there for several years. In her free time, she loved working with her hands, creating works of art with the skill of needlepointing and macrame. Extremely intelligent, she was known to be the queen of Trivial Pursuit and the other players always wanted to be on her team. An avid reader, she treasured reading a variety of books. Having never received her driver’s license, when her oldest child was due to get hers, Cheryl finally took the initiative to take the test, passing with flying colors. A true homebody and private person through the years, Cheryl was truly generous, continuously putting other’s needs before her own. God fearing, she was a faithful Christian who regularly studied the bible, living her life through the teachings of Jesus. Quick witted and quite ornery at times, she was a wonderful and dedicated matriarch, who loved her family deeply and without condition. She and Tom had the love story of a lifetime, and one that was envied by all. With her declining health in the last few years, he stayed by her side unconditionally and consistently. Loved by all who were blessed to know her, Cheryl will be forever missed. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Bob and Carl Easton. She leaves behind her husband and soulmate, Tom Martin; daughter, Shelly Noel (Jason), and son, Tommy Martin both of Monrovia; sister, Verna Lee Hall (Frank) of Mooresville; grandchildren, Davis Noel (Lexie) of Boynton Beach, FL, Bailey Noel (Casey) of Martinsville, and Cooper Noel of Monrovia; along with several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved Boston Terrier, Ruby. Per Cheryl’s wishes, she was cremated, and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, her family asks for donations to be made to her daughter Shelly’s Venmo account @michelleshelly-martinnoel to help offset her medical bills.
