Cecile Ruth Pierson

Cecile Ruth (Torkelson) Pierson, 90, of Plainfield, completed her earthly journey on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, in Hendricks Regional Hospital, Danville. The oldest of two children, she was born on October 18, 1935, in Ava, Missouri, to the late Frederick and Vera (Lucas) Torkelson. Growing up in Berrien Springs, Michigan, Cecile was a lifelong Seventh Day Adventist. She earned her associate’s degree in Secretarial Science from the Emmanuel Missionary College, now known as Andrews University. Cecile married a fellow classmate, Grant Pierson on September 4, 1955, and together they were blessed with two children, Darrol and Rhonda. Above all, she was a loving and thoughtful matriarch. Most proud of the five grandchildren and four great grandchildren that knew her as Grandma and Cece. She loved with all of her heart and thoroughly enjoyed stocking Little Debbie snack cakes when her own grandchildren were young and special traditions with the great grandchildren that included tea parties with macarons and having them surprise her with donuts and flowers. In her younger years, Cecile enjoyed baking and cooking to share with family and friends. She was the one who was behind the scenes and making things happen. She loved to read religious romance novels and grow her collection of elephants. Selfless to think of others on special occasions, Cecile was known for sending letters written on her trusty typewriter and cards in the mail. Keeping her independence for a full span of 90 years, Cecile’s loving legacy will live on in the hearts of those who she leaves behind. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Grant Pierson on May 18, 2014; and her brother, Robert Torkelson. Survivors include her son, Darrol Pierson of Indianapolis; daughter, Rhonda Foote of Plainfield; grandchildren, Crystina Forseti (Mike), Megan Stevenson (Eli), Rebecca Ward (Jon), Bowie Foote (Kait), Greyson Foote (Noah); great grandchildren, Lydia, Grant, Maddox, and Zinnia. Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel, in Monrovia. There will be no services held at this time.
