Alma Fay Eubanks

Alma Fay Eubanks, 94, of Monrovia, passed from this life at 10:57am, on Saturday, July 31, 2021, while surrounded by her children and in the comfort of her own home. She was born on August 31, 1926, to the late Elva and Emma (Pope) Atherton. Alma was a twin and one of the five Atherton children who were raised within the independent farming operations of small-town Indiana on the outskirts of Monrovia in a town called Hall. After losing her father at the young age of six, she became no stranger to the unfair harshness of real life. Marrying a fellow classmate, Richard E. Eubanks 1945 graduate of Monrovia in 1945; to whom exchanged vows on February 22, 1948 and were blessed to share in the memories and making of 70 years and a family that first welcomed David, then Sue and concluded with twins girls, Denise and Diane. Formerly working in the Speedway Coca-Cola plant, Alma will be remembered most from working as a cafeteria cook and lunch lady at the Monroe-Gregg School Districts. A force that not many people dare to reckon, she loved to work close where she kept an eye on the kids able to keep a close eye on the kids and their peers; to whom many chose to claim title of calling her mom. Her spirit was bright, and she chose to share it among all. Running a tight ship, respect was often granted, and minds worked best when flowing with manners. A life that walked in the light of faith, Alma and Richard were cherished members and friendly neighbors of the Monrovia Christian Church Most content when surrounded by the good company of family, they frequently traveled to Kentucky and later purchased a lot on Barkley lakes, where the true treasures in life was found to be spending quality family time in the great outdoors. A masterful cook, her specialty was steak and gravy. A treasured meal, she had it perfected to feed her small army. Straight forward, funny, and overflowing with wits, Alma was a sometimes stubborn and spontaneously caring person. A woman of nature and nurture, her sugar-coated filters were non existent and she sized down for no one; including the bullies that she preferred to chew up and spit out during breakfast just to teach them a lesson. Leaving her love to always remain, Alma's spirited presence has been sealed with the loving memories that continues to live in the hearts of all that she touched. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly seventy years, Richard E. Eubanks, oldest daughter, Sue Ellen Gary (husband, Stephen); her twin, Alpha Atherton and two siblings, Herman Atherton, and Margaret Hamilton. Survivors include her son, David Eubanks (wife, Sandy) of Hall and twin daughters, Denise Graham (husband, Jimmy) of Hall and Diane Eubanks of Monrovia; sister, Dorothy Atherton Coop (husband, Richard) of Monrovia; former son-in-law, Donald Kershaw of Monrovia; grandchildren, Richard “AJ” Gary of Indianapolis, Todd Gary of Monrovia, James Michael Gary of Florida, Tricia Fisher (husband, Doug) of Monrovia, Jeffrey Eubanks (wife, Annamarie) of Monrovia, Derek Graham (wife, Kimberley) of Hall and Brianna Kershaw of Monrovia; 11 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandkids and one on the way; along with a host of extended family members and lifelong friends; and a fellow senior fur-friend and grand-dog, Jasmine. Funeral and Cremation Arrangements have been entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Friends and family are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life Dinner on Saturday, October 16, at Noon, in the Monrovia Christian Church Fellowship Hall.
