Aletha "Skeeter" Williams Ecoff

Aletha Marie “Skeeter” Williams Ecoff, 92, of Indianapolis, concluded her earthly journey with loved ones at her bedside and was called to eternal rest at 1:39 p.m., on Friday, July 24, 2020, in Franciscan St. Francis South Hospital, Indianapolis. Aletha was the last living child, born to the late Roy and Bessie Fairfield, on October 28, 1927, in Thorntown. Waitressing with her sister at what was formerly known as White Point Café near Kentucky Ave. and Harding Street, Skeeter’s brother owned the diner and it was during the time when a good tip was considered to be anywhere from .10 to .25 cents. After crossing paths with a young semi-driver from Morgan County, she married Raymond Williams and became the proud mother of twins in 1947. Raising the kids on farm property in Hall, Mike and Lynn are lifelong residents and Monrovia classmates. Unexpectedly widowed in 1965, she continued working as the assistant director of the BMV at the Indiana Statehouse. Blessed to find love again and a partner in life, she was united in marriage with Ward Thomas “Tom” Ecoff on April 20, 1969. Two peas in a pod, they shared similar interests and avidly traveled in their RV and spent the winter months at condos they owned in Florida. An excellent putter, Skeeter and Tom were members of the El Dorado Golf Club where she was very active in the women's golfing community. In addition, they were great Pacer fans and took up quite the collection from betting a dollar for each game. An excellent cook and wonderful baker, she was a strict diabetic and had the willpower to refrain from sweets while continuing to make her famous pies, cookies, and candies for others. Some of her favorite past times and hobbies were morel mushroom hunting on the property in Hall, watching the Lawrence Welk Show with Tom on Saturday evenings, traveling, dancing and family gatherings. Also, a very creative crafter, she was known to crochet and knit afghans, sweaters, and socks to gift at Christmas. Her three main loves in life was found in her husband, her family and of course, the game of golf. To this very day she would not allow for Tom to sell her golf clubs. Generously crafted and prone to play in good fun, her jovial nature was good company to entertain and will be missed by all that knew and loved her. The memories and funny stories of Skeeter will be treasured and shared with generations to come. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Raymond Williams; siblings, Wilbur Padgett (wife, Helen), Opal Osborne (husband, Charlie), Lela Lewis (husband, Poss), Esther Faucett (husband, John), Mary Eaton (husband, Ernie), Janet Osborne (husband, Danny), Lawrence Fairfield (wife, Wilma); in-laws, Harold Ecoff (wife, Dorothy) and Jim Ecoff (wife, Jenny). Along with her loyal confidant and husband of 51 years, Tom Ecoff of Indianapolis, survivors include her twin children, Mike Williams (wife, Debbie) and Lynn Clayton (husband, Smokey) both of Monrovia; step children, Linda Peavler (husband, Jim) of Anderson, Larry Ecoff of Pendelton and twins, Denise Ringer (husband, John) of Fortville and Diane Wichman of Greenwood; grandchildren, Darryl Clements (wife, Danene), Kim Obermeyer (husband, Terry), Tammy Denny (husband, Todd), Drinda Mason, Devin Williams (wife, Laura), Jennifer Martin (husband, Alex), Brian Clayton, Lisa Grinstead, Lance Grinstead (wife, Cozette), Darra Biteman, Ryan Knoll (wife, Bessie), Jessie Harsha, (husband, Andy), Heather Mustin, Holly Griffin (husband, Nate); great grandchildren, Dalton, Dayton and Daylen Clements, Austin and Jared Obermeyer, Brycen, Brayden and Erica Denny, Caleb and Jackie Mason, Abby and Ty Williams, Grayden and Alyssa Martin, John Andrew Shieve, Casen Pinkowski, Evah Huffman, Hudson and Henley, William, Sophia, Maria and Tommy, Skylar, Kooper and Carissa; Jocelyn and Reese; and 2 great great grandchildren, Vivian and Warren Shieve. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel in Monrovia. Family and Friends are invited to attend a graveside service that will begin at 3:00 p.m., on Tuesday, July 28, 2020, in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Hall. STATEWIDE COVID UPDATE: Mandate requires masks to be worn in public while maintaining a safe distance of 6 feet.
